Dear Gratitude,
I
am so grateful that I am alive and can write you this post today. I love the gift of life. There were many times in my 38 years of
existence on earth that I faced situations and circumstances wherein I could have
lost my life. But God by His grace has
not taken away the breath of life He’s given me. For that, I am truly grateful.
Today,
my mind is sleepy and I feel weak. And
that is because I’ve been awake since 2:30 a.m.
I think I know why I feel weak and my mind is sleepy. It always happens when my early hours sleep
is disturbed.
The
early hours of the morning is a time when our body is suppose to enter that
“deep sleep” period. It is the time our
body heals, rejuvenates and we gain the strength and energy our body lost. That is the time, our brain does its work
better. Our stomach is suppose to rest,
too, so that the blood can be diverted to other parts of the body such as the
brain and for healing purposes. Guess
what, I ate a plate of rice and drank a cup of milo around 4:00 a.m. I am not a sleep researcher but that is how I
always feel when I disturb my sleep between 2:00 a.m and 6:00 a.m.
By
the way, our gratitude practice for today is found on page 111 of The
Magic. It is called “A Magic Morning”.
This
gratitude exercise is basically saying, “to
have a magical day, fill your morning with gratitude”. When we fill our mornings with gratitude, we
energize ourselves with gratitude’s power and energy, and that will keep us
going on a positive note during the day.
So
how do we fill our morning with gratitude?
1. When I open my eyes in the morning and my
feet hits the floor, I say the magic word “thank
you” and truly feel the gratitude in my heart.
- I
am grateful that I am alive. I love the
gift of life.
- I
am grateful that God has given me another brand new day, a new beginning, to
live.
- I
am grateful because I was fast asleep in the night, didn’t know what was going
on around me, but I woke up.
- I
am grateful because I could have died in my sleep, but I am alive.
- I
am grateful that my body and mind had a good night’s rest, has healed,
rejuvenated, fresh and is ready for a new day.
- Thank
you for the comfy bed I sleep in, the pillows and sheets.
2. The morning routine presents many
opportunities for me to be grateful and give many thanks.
- Thank
you for the clean running water. People
have worked hard to dig trenches, lay pipes, treat the water and ensure fresh,
clean water reached the city from the mountains so that I can wash and refresh
myself.
- Thank
you for the toothbrush and colgate, the people in the supply chain who made
them and I finally bought them. Without
them, I will feel really uncomfortable from bad breathe and a stinking mouth.
- Thank
you for the soap that I use to wash. I
feel really fresh and nice after washing with the soap.
- Thank
you for the towel that I use to dry myself.
Without it, I will be standing with water all over me.
- Thank
you for the clothes I wear. There are so
many people in other parts of the world who worked hard to produce all the
materials that was eventually used to manufacture the clothes that I wear. I send the magic dust of gratitude to
them. Without clothes, I will be naked
or wearing leaves.
- Thank
you for the comb with which I comb my hair and the mirror in which I can see my
beautiful face.
- Thank
you for the plates, cups and spoons in the kitchen that I put my food on and
eat. Life would be like back in the
primitive days if I don’t have them.
- Thank
you for the pots and electrical appliances in which I cook. They make life easier.
- Thank
you for the fridge in which I keep my food and they don’t go bad. It preserves food so I don’t have to buy
fresh food or go to the store everyday.
- Thank
you for the gas and electricity which I use to cook. Without them, I would be making fire outside
and life will be difficult.
- Thank
you the breakfast, the morning tea, food, water, juice. They give me physical energy for the day and
supply my body with essential nutrients.
- Thank
you for the shoes I will now wear and hit the road. Without them, I will get my feet dirty and
step on many bad things.
From
the moment I open my eyes until I’ve finished getting ready to leave the house,
I say the magic words “thank you” in my mind for everything I touch, use and
eat.
As
I go through the day, the magic power of gratitude will bring more things for
me to be grateful for. More good things
will happen and the Magic Morning will be multiplied.
