Day 3: Gratitude For My Relationships

Dear Gratitude,

I am so thankful that as this day comes to an end and a new day begins (at sundown), I am alive and can write to you.  It's a miracle I am alive.  I love life!  My daughter did not go to school today.  I spent a good time with her, we talked, laughed and we ate together.  It was lovely.  If there is one thing that I must thank you for, again its her.

The gratitude exercise for today is called "Magical Relationships".  No man is an island.  We live surrounded by people and our experiences and quality of relationships with them gives us joy, meaning and purpose in life.  The state of our relationships, whether with parents, spouse, children, co-workers, neighbors, man/woman, etc, affect our lives more than anything else.

Gratitude makes relationships flourish.  Studies have shown that people who practice gratitude have closer relationships, are more connected to family and friends and have people look upon them favorably.  Rhonda says that as we increase our gratitude for any relationship, we will magically receive an abundance of happiness and good things in that relationship.

Opposite of gratitude is complaints, murmurings, gossips and criticisms of other people.  It is like a poison that will attract more toxicity, poison and decay in our relationships.  When we criticize others, we attract criticism to our lives.  Never ever criticize another person.  Before I utter a negative word about somebody, I  must remember that it is a reflect of my weak character and the same negativity shall come back to me.  When I start being grateful about the people in my life, there will be no room for negativity and criticisms.

Death and life are in the power of the tongue.  Words create, they are powerful.  So when I complain about any person, I am actually harming my own life.  By law of attraction, whatever I think or say about another person, I am attracting the same back to me.

Today, I am grateful for the people in my life. I choose 3 of my closest person whom I have a relationship with that I am grateful for and get their photograph.  I sit down and think about the things I am most grateful for about each person.  What I love most, their best qualities, their patience, forgiveness, talents, strengths, good judgement, wisdom, sense of humor, kindness, etc.

After thinking about these qualities and being grateful, I put the photograph in front of me, and with a pen and notebook, I chose 5 things that I am most grateful for.  I look at the photograph of the person as I make my list beginning each sentence with the magic words "thank you", address the person by name and write down what I'm grateful for.

Eg:  Thank you Lydia for always making me laugh.

After finishing the list for the three people, I take the photographs and put them in a prominent place where I can see them often.  When I look at the photographs, I say the magic word "thank you" and the person's name.  If I am moving around, I will carry the photographs with me and three (3) times during the day, look at the photographs and say the magic word and the person' s name.

There are more than three people that I am most grateful for.  I would like to do this for at least five people in my life, not just three.  So instead of three that is recommended, I will actually do five.

To summarize, here are the steps:

1.  Choose 3 closest relationships and collect a photograph of each person.
2.  With the photograph if front, write 5 things I am most grateful for about each person.
3.  Begin each sentence with the magic words, thank you, including their name and what I am grateful for.
4.  Carry the 3 photograph with me today, or put them in a place where I will see them often.  Look at the photographs on at least 3 occasions, speak to the person's face in the photograph, and thank them by saying the magic words, thank you, and their name.
