Dear Gratitude,
Today's gratitude practice is called The Magic Ingredient. It is about being grateful for the FOOD we eat and the WATER we drink. I read the chapter from The Magic to my daughter, and we both had a good day, a thankful day. I did not update this blog, though, until today.
One of the earliest lessons I've learned from my parents is "we pray before every meal". The prayer is basically to thank God for the food and ask God to bless the food so that we can eat. Children are taught to pray and at meal times, they happily pray. The two words they utter is "thank you" and "bless".
This is my prayer for meals that I taught my daughter since she knew how to speak:
Thank you LORD for this food
Bless it so that we may take
In Jesus Name we pray
Amen
This is a common prayer Christians pray at meal times:
Come Lord Jesus
Be Our Guest
Let This Food to Us
Be Blessed
Amen
In fact, giving thanks food before eating is a tradition that has been practiced for thousands of years. If there is one thing that we really need to be grateful for, its food. Just like the air and water, food is a basic survival need. Image, if we do not eat for many hours or days, we feel weak, our hands and knees tremble and our minds become confused. Going without food for days can even kill. We should therefore be more grateful for the food we eat.
Gratitude for the Food we Eat
Thoughts of gratitude for the food should not be for the food on the table only but should extend further to the people who cook the food and outside to the food supply chain. Take a moment to think about all the people who have contributed to the food now before us.
For fresh fruits and vegetables - the farmers who work tirelessly to plant and nurture the plants until they are ready for harvest. Then the pickers, the packers, distributors and the transportation people who drive long distances day and night to ensure the fruits and vegetables are delivered fresh for our consumption 24/7 365.
Likewise, for fish, there are fishermen who leave their families to spend months on the sea fishing. They brave the rough seas, feel lonely sometimes and may not eat well. Their tireless efforts pays off when they catch fish. Then the people in the supply chain of preparing the fish, the packing, delivery and finally we have fish.
The same is true for poultry, beef, tea, coffee, and all other food we eat. Just before you put the food in your mouth, close your eyes and think of the how all the people in the supply chain have worked tirelessly to ensure the food gets delivered to people. Say thank you for the farmers who dedicate their lives to producing the food we eat.
Food Is A Gift!
Food is a gift on nature because there would be nothing for us to eat if nature didn't supply us with the soil, nutrients and water to grow food.
Water
without water, there would be no food, vegetation, animals or human life! We use water to grow our food, drink, wash, water the gardens, supply bathroom, supply cars, hospitals, industries, manufacturing and almost everything humans do, we need water. Our body is 70% water and water keeps us alive! Hmmm water, what a great blessing.
Thank you, thank you, thank you for water!
Where would we be without food and water? There will be no life on earth.
To say "thank you" before eating or drinking anything is an act of recognition and gratitude for the miraculous gifts of food and water.
Incredibly, when we are grateful for the food and water, it doesn't impact our lives only but impacts the world's supply of food and water. When more people are grateful, there will be more supply of food and water, changing scarcity and everyone will have enough to eat and drink.
Blessing
When we bless our food and water with gratitude it becomes purified. According to the Author of The Magic, Rhonda Bryne, who quoted discoveries in quantum physics (the Observer Effect), talks about the changes that the act of observation makes on whatever is being observed. Focusing gratitude on food and water changes their energy structure and purify them so whatever is consumed helps the body.
Experience Gratitude
With a grateful heart, savor the food and drink. Concentrate on the taste of the food and the flavor of the liquid in the mouth before swallowing them. The energy of focus and gratitude enhances the flavor.

Today's Gratitude Practice
Before eating or drinking anything, take a moment to look at what I am about to eat or drink, and say the magic words "
thank you".
Make this a daily habit for anything to eat or drink.
Gratefully yours,
Kejanny
